Tech Visa
The growing demand for IT professionals around the world is nothing new. For years the market has grown all over the world, but the supply of these professionals does not keep up with the demand for them. In the labor market, and in any other case, when there is too much demand and little supply, prices intend to increase. In this case, wages are increasing and the market increasingly attractive.
With the Covid-19 pandemic and the growing culture of remote jobs, the specialized IT professional was even more demanded to assist the companies in the continuity of work remotely. In this sense, countries that do not have the capacity to offer the labor demanded, increased their incentives to receive this type of professional in their countries, was the case of Portugal that created a program named TechVisa.
TechVisa Portugal is a certification program of technological and innovative companies for the purpose of granting a visa or residence permit to highly qualified third-country nationals who wish to develop their activity therein.
The "Tech Visa" Portugal aims to ensure that qualified staff, especially from the technological area, foreigners to the European Union, can access the jobs created by Portuguese companies in a simplified way. Thus, the program is aimed at technological and innovative companies, inserted in the global market, who want to attract qualified and specialized staff to Portugal.
To request tech visa in Portugal visa the main documents will be:
- The company responsible for contracting must be accredited to the program.
- Employment contract or employment contract valid for at least one year, corresponding to an annual remuneration of at least 1.5 times the national average gross annual salary or three times the indexing value of social support (IAS);
- Passport or other travel document valid for another 3 months beyond the duration of the planned stay;
- Valid travel insurance, which allows to cover the necessary expenses for medical reasons, including urgent medical assistance and possible repatriation;
- Proof of the regular situation if you are of a national other than that of the country where you apply for a visa;
- Application for consultation of the criminal Portuguese by the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF);
- Criminal record certificate of the country of origin or country where the applicant has resided for more than one year (minors under 16 years of age are exempt from the submission of criminal record documents);
- Proof of accommodation;
- Proof of the existence of means of subsistence as defined by the ordinance of the members of the competent Government;
- Proof of possession of means of subsistence may also be carried out by presentation of a term of responsibility, signed by a national or a qualified foreign citizen, with a residence document in Portugal.
In case of the company that made your contract is not registered in the program, you must apply for the work visa, like any other professional.
