Portugal is the EU country with the higher growth
projection to 2022 according to the European Commission Spring 2022 Economic
Forecast released this week. The Portuguese GDP is expected to grow 5.8% in
this year based on tourism upturn, geographic distance from Ukraine War, less
dependency on energy from Russia and COVID-19 restriction.
Tourism responds for almost 20% of Portugal GDP and has its path structured to grow again after two years suffering hard. Besides the well-known characteristics such as the warm weather, the beautiful beaches and the low cost, Portugal has the advantage of being located away from Ukraine and NATO countries threatened by Russia strengthening its positions as one of the top choices for tourists.
Another impact that comes from Ukraine War is the energy crisis. In this matter, Portugal has lesser dependency on Russia gas than other countries from the EU bringing more stability to the economy while reduces the uncertainty about energy supply.
The COVID-19 restrictions in Portugal lasts for a longer term in comparison with other countries. This decision resulted in negative and longstanding impacts delaying the economy recovery for 2022 only. Apart from this delay, Portugal is one of the best countries in this fight against coronavirus achieving the lowest indicators in world and building a healthier and more structured environment for the population and the visitors.

The Schengen Visa is a type of short-stay visa (maximum 90 days) that allows citizens of certain countries to enter the European Union for the purpose of visiting or tourism. The Schengen Agreement establishes the rules for entering and staying in European Union countries for the purpose of tourism.
To apply for this visa, it's necessary to present, among other documents, the proof that you have means of subsistence, accommodation, air tickets, travel insurance and justification of the reason for the trip.
